Easel is built and run by one developer in Portugal, and paid for by its subscribers.
I'm Evan. I built Easel because small businesses deserve a store that's fast, private, and fairly priced, from a company whose values they can stand behind.
Before Easel, I co-founded two startups, raised $15 million, grew teams past 40 people, and sold one of the companies. Along the way I built systems that passed pentests and SOC 2 and PCI audits and served millions of customers. Easel gets the same care.
I also saw what outside money does to a product. Investors want growth every quarter, and that pressure turns into feature bloat, new fees, and decisions made for the board instead of the customer. Easel has no investors, so I answer only to the people who use it.
What you can count on
You talk to me. Every email to evan@easel.engineering and every Signal message comes to me. If something breaks, I fix it. If you ask for a feature, I'll tell you honestly whether I'll build it.
You're not locked in. Export your data at any time. The whole platform is AGPL ↗, so if I ever stopped running Easel, you or a developer you hire could keep your store going on your own server.
My incentives match yours. I only make money if you stay, so I'd rather fix what bothers you than sell you something new.
Where Easel is going
Easel can stay this small for as long as it needs to. When revenue can support it, I'll hire a few people and run Easel as a worker cooperative: one person, one vote, me included, and no outside owners. With no one to sell out to, the people running Easel will only do well if your business does.
